Who is antiDesigns?
AntiDesigns is a Boston based company that began in the summer of 2004 and had its roots in early 2003. We were still in college at the time (computer science and computer engineering), and could barely put togther the money we needed for our rent, let alone shirts. We have never been financially backed, and we don't run the company off any outside money. AntiDesigns was started off some loose change, hard work and the desire to vent our creativity. It now continues its forward motion off its own momentum.
After struggling through some hard times financially, we did all we could to keep things alive regardless of lack of time and money. We could only do small runs of shirts from local print shops. As is standard in the silk screening industry, the more shirts you buy, the less money you'll pay. We kept looking at each other trying to figure out how to make things more affordable and took one of our biggest steps in late 2005 when we started silk screening on our own.
Initially, we built a homemade press out of some scrap wood and creative-thinking. Then we burned our own screens, and learned the importance of ink and shirt quality. We tried to stay positive about the number of misprints we made, despite the overwhelming responsibilities, and total lack of experience involved in printing, we pushed on one day at a time. Our living rooms became print shops and our kitchen sinks, floors and walls are stained with evidence of our dedication.
In the fall of 2006 we bartered for some shop space with handblown glass extraordinare Luke Adams. Every shirt we move is printed by us in that shop. Deep into every shirt is the blood sweat and tears of two local Boston guys and their growing team. We're devoted to getting fresh, original designs on quality, affordable gear.
At this point, our screen printing skills are fairly refined and we've started taking on custom print jobs. If you're interested in having something screen printed, don't hesitate to contact us.
